AccessScience Personal Account

To register for a free personal account:

  • Click on Your Personal Account from the homepage or any content page to open the sign-in window
  • Click Register, then fill in the form with your name, role, email address, and a password and accept the terms and conditions
  • (Optional) Select topics of interest to receive email alerts when new content is added in those areas

Personal account features include:

  • Save individual items to your account or save searches and receive email alerts when new content is added relevant to that search
  • Filter your list of saved items by content type
  • Generate a citation or email a link to resources saved in your account.  Items can also be removed from this list at any time.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Personal accounts are an optional feature and are not required to view or use any of the content on the site.
  • Personal accounts do not replace authentication via your institution; you must first be logged in through your institution to use AccessScience. 

AccessScience Off-Campus Access

You can use AccessScience from your mobile device, tablet or laptop even when you are not connected to your institution's network. Simply download a Roaming Passport to your device.

A Roaming Passport is particularly useful when:

  • you are using a mobile device over a 3G, 4G, or 4G LTE network
  • your institution accesses the site through an IP address
  • you are using your mobile device when you are not connected to your institution's network

Instructions

  1. Using the device for which you want a Roaming Passport, visit this page while connected to your institution’s network.
  2. Click the button at the bottom of the page to save a Roaming Passport to your device.
  3. Enjoy the freedom that mobile access offers!

Please Note

  • The lifetime of each Roaming Passport is six (6) months.
  • Logging out of the site will remove the Passport, requiring you to return to your Institution's site to re-authenticate and download a fresh Passport.
  • Roaming Passports are not available to public library patrons.

Searching for Content in AccessScience

General Search:

  • Typeahead suggests titles related to your search terms
  • Search for terms across all content types

Advanced Search:

  • Use quotation marks to search for an exact phrase ("mechanical engineering")
  • Combine terms using uppercase AND and OR (mechanical AND engineering)
  • Exclude terms from your search
  • Select a specific topic or content type to limit results

Search Results:

  • First result is a definition of the term searched
  • Misspelled terms will yield a "Showing Results For" instead
  • Apply filters for topic or content type to narrow results
  • Save searches to your personal account to run again or get email alerts for new results

Content Types in AccessScience

Articles:

AccessScience articles are written by world-renowned scientists and experts in their field.  Thousands of expert scientists and engineers have contributed, including over 40 Nobel Prize Laureates.  Articles are skillfully edited to be engaging and informative and contain pedological features to increase student understanding.

Briefings:

AccessScience briefings are shorter, topical articles written by AccessScience editors on the latest discoveries, phenomena, and scientific breakthroughs. With their engaging content and highly relevant topics, briefings are a great tool for helping students pick a topic for a research assignment.

News:

AccessScience includes curated content from Science News magazine, an independent source of accurate information. Browse stories by year or by topic to stay on top of the latest news of science, medicine, and technology.

Biographies:

AccessScience contains a collection of text and video biographies of prominent scientists.  Video biographies are all under six minutes and describe the featured scientist’s background and developing interest in science as well as their significant contributions

Media:

AccessScience includes over 400 videos and animations to illustrate and explain various scientific concepts.  Videos include a curated collection from the American Chemical Society on the chemistry of everyday life.

Projects:

AccessScience projects feature step-by-step illustrated guides to hands-on maker activities.  Supply lists and introductory background details are available for each project.

Additional Features Available:
