Off-Campus FAQs
The Library Catalog and most sections of the web page are available to the public. The Research Databases are available only to Marietta College students, faculty and staff who have been entered into the library’s database. Library registration must be updated at the beginning of each fall, spring and summer terms. Registered patrons should enter their name as it appears on their Marietta College ID and their Barcode Number when prompted. 1. What is Remote Authentication?Dawes Library provides remote patron authentication. Students and faculty can now search most OhioLINK databases from home. If you cannot connect using the name or URL of the database from the OhioLINK web site, click on the link marked more... and a proxy URL is listed below the direct URL. Copy and paste this URL into your browser search box and you should be connected to the Remote Authentication page at OhioLINK. Users can also authenticate by going to auth.ohiolink.edu. Users will need to select Marietta College and then enter their name and barcode from their Marietta College ID.
2. I use AOL and keep having problems getting to off-campus materials.
Why?
America Online's integrated web browser (the part of AOL that lets you
browse the web) does not always work properly with the Library proxy server.
To access resources from off-campus when using AOL, you will need to do
the following:
- Log on to AOL as usual
- Open up another browser. If you do not have another browser, you may download a free copy of Internet Explorer
3. Why do I get the message “Authentication Failed”
after I type in my name and ID number?
You may have a typographical error in what you entered. Try again. You
also may not be registered in the Library or may not have updated your
ID in the Library. For either of these reasons, please call the circulation
desk at 740-376-4757 for assistance.
4. When I find a link to an electronic book in the OhioLINK catalog
and click on the link, I go to a page that requires a login. What should
I do?
If you have set up a netLibrary login, use it. If not, exit the database,
go to http://auth.ohiolink.edu and enter your information. For the database
list, select netLibrary. If you want to set up an account for the next
time, click on Create a Free Account and follow the directions.
5. What are the minimum browser requirements?
In order to use EbscoHost databases you must be using at least the following
browser versions, Netscape 7.x or Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 on a
PC. Minimum browser standards for Macintosh are: Safari 1.2x or Netscape
7.x .
6. How do I access JSTOR articles from off-campus?
Use the following link and enter your Name and Barcode when prompted.
