Four oil paintings by early Ohio artist, Sala Bosworth, are on exhibit
in the Schwartz Fireplace Lounge on the first floor of the Legacy
Library during the summer and fall of 2012.

Library Announces Winner of Showalter Research Award,
April 27, 2012

On Thursday, April 26, 2012, the Legacy Library held the inaugural
presentation of the Kenneth E. Showalter '50 Special Collections
Research Award. This award is presented annually to an
undergraduate or graduate student who authors the best research
paper using the primary sources of the Slack Research Collections
of the Legacy Library.

Japanese Prints on Exhibit,
February 9, 2012
Students in Marietta College's Museum Practices class recently opened
their first gallery exhibit for the spring semester with Fleeting
Glimpses:
Prints of Japan's Floating World, which is now on display in the
Legacy Library's Schwartz Fireplace Lounge on the first floor.

JSTOR is an interdisciplinary archive for the older content of selected
academic journals. It contains retrospective material for more than
1,000 core scholarly journals across the social sciences, humanities,
fine arts, and sciences.

Digitization Project Selected for Statewide Honor,

The Legacy Library's recent Civil War Digitization Project was recently
selected as one of three exemplary programs for the Library Services and
Technology Act (LSTA) 2011 Program Report to the Institute of Museum and
Library Services (IMLS).

Ghost Stories from the Stacks is back by popular demand,
October 13, 2011

Marietta College's inaugural "Ghost Stories from the Stacks" was so
wildly popular, the Legacy Library staff knew they had to bring it back
this year. Naturally, there will be a second annual "Ghost Stories"
on Friday, Oct. 28 in the Legacy Library.

Spinning Wheel Demonstration and Exhibit ,

Dr. Michael B. Taylor will be discussing the history of spinning wheels
and demonstrating their use. He has been collecting and writing about
American spinning wheels for more than 40 years and has co-authored two
books and more than 30 articles on the topic. Several spinning wheels
from Dr. Taylor's collection of more than 50 wheels are on display on
the second floor of Legacy Library.

Library Completes Civil War Digitization Project,

The Legacy Library announces the completion of a project to scan and
make available on the web several of its Civil War collections. The
project was funded by an LSTA grant from the Institute of Museum and
Library Services, which was awarded by the State Library of Ohio.

Library Exhibits Riverboat Photos from the Fred Way Collection,
September 13, 2011

The exhibit is comprised of prints of 12 unpublished photos
selected from the 9,500 images of the Fred Way Collection. The
collection documents riverboats that worked the Mississippi River
and its tributaries (principally the Ohio River) from the mid 19th
century through the later 20th century.

OhioLINK Adds Music Center, August 8, 2011

OhioLINK announces the launch of the OhioLINK Music Center
featuring more than 78,000 tracks and 21,000
works from the Naxos Music Library. Users can search for and listen to
tracks in six genres - Chinese music, classical music, opera, jazz,
spoken word and world music - with works from many well-known composers,
including Bach, Handel, Beethoven, Chopin, Strauss, Copeland, and
Ellington.

The Cochrane Library, a new resource offered by the Legacy
Library is a collection of evidence-based medical
databases that provide a filtered approach for health practitioners to
find summarized "best evidence" for determining the effectiveness of
specific interventions for diseases and related health care problems.

Virtual Exhibit Showcases Marietta Photography, 1880-1900, July

The lobby display screen in the Legacy Library is currently showing a
slide show of the photography of Dwight Biscoe, professor of natural
sciences at Marietta College from 1874 until 1907. The exhibit features
numerous local scenes, including shots of downtown Marietta taken from
Williamstown and from Harmar Hill, pictures of the flood of 1883
(including shots taken from Irwin Tower), campus buildings, and the
building of the Williamstown bridge in 1902.

Selections from the Geology Department's recently acquired W.M. Smith
Mineral Collection are currently on display on the second floor of the
Legacy Library near the entrance to the Worthington Center for Teaching
Excellence.

Floods Virtual Exhibit, February 17,

Stop by the Legacy Library lobby and see the virtual exhibit of images
of Marietta floods taken from the Harry Philip Fischer Collection.
Photos taken during floods from 1913 to 1948 show familiar locations
such as the Lafayette Hotel, the (now) Dime Bank building, the Betsy
Mills Club, Front Street, and many others.

With the beginning of the Spring Semester 2011, the Marietta College
Library expands its offerings of digital journal backfiles with the
addition of three JSTOR collections. The three collections combine to
include over 420 journal titles in the core arts, humanities, and social
sciences disciplines.

Beginning December 4, 2010 and extending through the Spring Semester,
the Marietta College Library will be hosting the Colors of India, an
exhibit of six contemporary paintings from India. The paintings are
available for public viewing in the Schwartz Fireplace Lounge on the
first floor of the Legacy Library.

- The Legacy Library now offers photocopying using M-Cash on your college ID card. The photocopier on the lower level of the Legacy Library now accepts M-Cash. Copies with M-Cash are charged at 5 per copy. You must have deposited money on the M-Cash account on your card to use this copier.

- The Legacy Library is pleased to announce the acquisition of the Fred Way Collection of Steamboat Images.
This significant collection of more than 9,500 negatives documents riverboats that plied the Mississippi River
and its tributaries (principally the Ohio River) from the mid 19th century through the later 20th century.
