Compiled by Gena BuehrerMarch 2000
This is a guide to Marietta area newspapers for which Dawes Memorial Library
has issues on microfilm. The microfilm is available at the Circulation
Desk on the main floor of the library. Please state the name of the newspaper
and the year when asking for the microfilm reel you wish to view. Microfilm
readers with printers are available on the main floor of the library.
Printing charges are ten cents ($ 0.10) per exposure.
Alphabetical Listing of Newspapers
In the first section of this guide, newspapers are listed in alphabetical
order by the name under which they were published. Each entry contains
a complete list of dates known to be in the library's collection. Frequency
of publication is noted, as are any changes in the name of the newspaper.
A symbol by the individual entry will indicate if that newspaper is included
on one of the reels entitled "Miscellaneous Marietta Newspapers." See
the Symbol Key printed on page one for translation.
Chronological Listing of Newspapers
The second section of the guide lists area newspapers in chronological
order by the date of the first available issue. It also notes frequency
of publication and name changes. A symbol by the individual entry will
indicate if that newspaper is included on one of the reels entitled "Miscellaneous
Marietta Newspapers." See the Symbol Key printed on page twelve for translation.
Marietta Miscellaneous Newspapers
The third section is a complete listing of all the newspapers on the three
"Marietta Miscellaneous Newspapers" microfilm reels. These "miscellaneous"
reels contain issues of several different area newspapers. A symbol by
the individual entry in the alphabetical and chronological sections will
indicate if that newspaper is on one of the "miscellaneous" reels and
the number of the reel on which it can be found. See the Symbol Key printed
on pages one and twelve for translation.
