The Legacy Library is participating in the Disney Magic of Storytelling campaign. This campaign aims to inspire families' imaginations, cultivate a lifelong love of reading in kids, and bring books to underserved communities across the country.
Legacy Library Introduces New Study Nooks, February 8, 2018
If you haven't stopped by the Legacy Library recently, please come and look at the improvements we made over winter break. During the Christmas/New Year's Break 2017-18, the library underwent some renovations to create some new individual study nooks and to enlarge the printer/photocopier area.
Library Receives Historic Paintings, July 10, 2017
The Marietta College Legacy Library has received a donation of two historically significant paintings, both dating from the mid-1830s. The paintings represent two historical structures of significance to the founding of Marietta and were painted by two of the artists active in the area: Campus Martius by Charles Sullivan and Fort Harmar by Sala Bosworth.

David McCullough Uses Legacy Library Special Collections, October 7, 2016
Pulitzer Prize-winning author David McCullough made an initial visit to the Legacy Library in September 2016 to begin research on a new book he is writing. The Pioneers will focus on the initial settlement of the Northwest Territory beginning in Marietta.
Films on Demand, June 27, 2016
The Legacy Library has begun a subscription to a new video resource that covers a broad range of subject areas. Films on Demand offers a video source of over 20,000 videos from highly reputable educational video publishers.

Historic Photo Database Available, March 3, 2015
More than 8,000 photos from the Harry Philip Fischer Collection have been digitized and are now available in a publicly accessible database. Dating from the first half of the 20th Century, the collection documents life in Marietta, Ohio.
Legacy Library Hosts Exhibit of Modern Art, November 13, 2014
Beginning in November 2014 and extending through the Spring Semester, the Marietta College Legacy Library will be hosting Modern Art from the Krause Collection, an exhibit of four contemporary paintings from around the world. The paintings are available for public viewing in the Schwartz Fireplace Lounge on the first floor of the Legacy Library.
Legacy Library Recognized for Service, April 23, 2014
The Legacy Library was recently recognized for its 130 continuous years of service as a U.S. Federal Depository Library. The library of Marietta College received its depository designation in 1884 under librarian Rodney M. Stimson.
Funding Information Network, November 7, 2013
The Legacy Library is now a partner of the Funding Information Network of the Foundation Center, a program that was formerly known as Cooperating Collections and which the Legacy Library has been a part since 2007. As a network partner, the library receives a core electronic and print grants collection that provides information about funding and grantmakers. Through the network, the library also provides training in grant writing, fundraising, and management for local nonprofits, students, faculty, artists, and the general public.

4th Annual Ghost Stories for the Stacks, October 25, 2013
Join Marietta College students, faculty, and staff on Friday, October 25, as they gather in the gloom of the haunted reading room in Legacy Library for an evening of spine-tingling Ghost Stories From the Stacks.

The thrills begin at 8:00 pm with exploding pumpkins and freaky science experiments courtesy of the chemistry department. Look into your future with Georgene Timko, a palm reader with deep Hungarian roots, and watch clips from horror movies in the Fireplace Lounge. Pumpkin carving will be held in Chlapaty Café, and Steve Dixon, magician extraordinaire, will be on hand to conjure up unearthly entertainment. The first session of ghost stories is held on the lower level at 9:00 pm, and the second session is from 10:00 to 11:00 pm. This year’s offerings include tales of terror by American authors, as well as chilling legends from around the world.

Library Exhibits Watercolors of Historic Marietta, October 18, 2013
On display in the Schwartz Fireplace Lounge on the first floor of the Legacy Library are prints from watercolors by Allan Norris. Entitled "Painting Marietta: Watercolors of Historic Marietta," the exhibit features 11 works by Norris. Included are views of various Marietta College buildings, such as Legacy Library, Andrews Hall, and Erwin Hall.
Legacy Library Receives Neu Endowment, August 27, 2013
The Legacy Library of Marietta College has received a bequest from the estate of Dr. Irene Neu Jones of approximately $2 million. The bequest will establish the Dr. Irene D. Neu '44 Legacy Library Endowment.

New OhioLINK loan rules took effect on July 9th, 2012 that allow longer checkout periods for faculty members and more renewals for all borrowers.

Library Announces Winner of Showalter Research Award, April 27, 2012
On Thursday, April 26, 2012, the Legacy Library held the inaugural presentation of the Kenneth E. Showalter '50 Special Collections Research Award. This award is presented annually to an undergraduate or graduate student who authors the best research paper using the primary sources of the Slack Research Collections of the Legacy Library.
Japanese Prints on Exhibit, February 9, 2012
Students in Marietta College's Museum Practices class recently opened their first gallery exhibit for the spring semester with Fleeting Glimpses: Prints of Japan's Floating World, which is now on display in the Legacy Library's Schwartz Fireplace Lounge on the first floor.

JSTOR is an interdisciplinary archive for the older content of selected academic journals. It contains retrospective material for more than 1,000 core scholarly journals across the social sciences, humanities, fine arts, and sciences.
Digitization Project Selected for Statewide Honor, January 18, 2012
The Legacy Library's recent Civil War Digitization Project was recently selected as one of three exemplary programs for the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) 2011 Program Report to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
Ghost Stories from the Stacks is back by popular demand, October 13, 2011
Marietta College's inaugural "Ghost Stories from the Stacks" was so wildly popular, the Legacy Library staff knew they had to bring it back this year. Naturally, there will be a second annual "Ghost Stories" on Friday, Oct. 28 in the Legacy Library.
Spinning Wheel Demonstration and Exhibit , October 11, 2011
Dr. Michael B. Taylor will be discussing the history of spinning wheels and demonstrating their use. He has been collecting and writing about American spinning wheels for more than 40 years and has co-authored two books and more than 30 articles on the topic. Several spinning wheels from Dr. Taylor's collection of more than 50 wheels are on display on the second floor of Legacy Library.
Library Completes Civil War Digitization Project, October 3, 2011
The Legacy Library announces the completion of a project to scan and make available on the web several of its Civil War collections. The project was funded by an LSTA grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which was awarded by the State Library of Ohio.
Library Exhibits Riverboat Photos from the Fred Way Collection, September 13, 2011
The exhibit is comprised of prints of 12 unpublished photos selected from the 9,500 images of the Fred Way Collection. The collection documents riverboats that worked the Mississippi River and its tributaries (principally the Ohio River) from the mid 19th century through the later 20th century.

OhioLINK Adds Music Center, August 8, 2011
OhioLINK announces the launch of the OhioLINK Music Center featuring more than 78,000 tracks and 21,000 works from the Naxos Music Library. Users can search for and listen to tracks in six genres - Chinese music, classical music, opera, jazz, spoken word and world music - with works from many well-known composers, including Bach, Handel, Beethoven, Chopin, Strauss, Copeland, and Ellington.

The Cochrane Library, a new resource offered by the Legacy Library is a collection of evidence-based medical databases that provide a filtered approach for health practitioners to find summarized "best evidence" for determining the effectiveness of specific interventions for diseases and related health care problems.

Library Virtual Exhibit Showcases Marietta Photography, 1880-1900, July 29, 2011
The lobby display screen in the Legacy Library is currently showing a slide show of the photography of Dwight Biscoe, professor of natural sciences at Marietta College from 1874 until 1907. The exhibit features numerous local scenes, including shots of downtown Marietta taken from Williamstown and from Harmar Hill, pictures of the flood of 1883 (including shots taken from Irwin Tower), campus buildings, and the building of the Williamstown bridge in 1902.
Library Exhibits Mineral Specimens, July 29, 2011
Selections from the Geology Department's recently acquired W.M. Smith Mineral Collection are currently on display on the second floor of the Legacy Library near the entrance to the Worthington Center for Teaching Excellence.
