Legacy OneSearch: Home

A guide introducing the new discover service for Legacy Library.

What is Legacy OneSearch?

Legacy OneSearch is the unified discovery service for Legacy Library. This resource allows users to simultaneously search the MC Library catalog, OhioLINK catalog, and covers other services that the library either subscribes to or come as part of our OhioLINK membership. These would include content from resources like Academic Search Complete, Business Source Complete, PsycINFO, Electronic Journal Center (EJC), JSTOR, and many others. With Legacy OneSearch users can use one interface to access millions of articles, books, ebooks, images, videos, newspaper articles, and primary documents.

Legacy OneSearch Scopes

Legacy OneSearch is searched using a series of search scopes. These scopes provide different retrieval results and can offer either general or limited resources sets. What follows are the library specific scopes and what users can expect from each of the options.

MC & OhioLINK Resources- This is the broadest most general of the search scopes and covers everything that falls under the Legacy OneSearch umbrella. Generated results can potentially be very large and are good for users to see the breadth of resources that may be available for a topic. Large sets of results can be worked down by limiting options built into the OneSearch interface.

MC Library- The MC Library option only searches the Legacy Library collection. This scope is best used to find print books, electronic books, and streaming video that can be viewed or retrieved locally.

Course Reserves- Course Reserves limits searching to reserve material for classes taught at Marietta College. For users looking for assigned class readings, this scope would be the retrieval option.

Special Collections- This scope limits searching to the rich special collections found in Legacy Library. Users can identify and access things like the college archives, personal papers, diaries, manuscripts, business records, paintings, and photographs. While much of this material can viewed online, most of it will need to be used in special collections located in the basement of Legacy Library.

Erwin Educational Library- The Erwin Education Library is a collection of children's books and educational material located in Erwin Hall. This scope restricts results to resources located in this specialized library. For users looking to supplement the educational collection in Legacy, this scope provides an additional option. Identified items we'll need to be obtained and checked out at the Erwin Hall location.

Beyond My Library- This option searches the general index for all the resources provided by Ex Libris the vendor for Legacy OneSearch. Beyond My Library would not be recommended for general searching because most of the results would not be accessible. It may have some utility for students doing more extensive research projects that may want to see a more comprehensive list of resources. This scope could also be used to track down items for potential interlibrary loans.
