Library Materials FAQs

1. What is the Marietta College Library Catalog?

Marietta College Library uses the Innovative Interfaces, Inc. system to organize and manage its collection of almost 250,000 books, journals, government documents, and media. Library patrons may search by author, title, author/title, subject, call number, journal title, or keyword. Students can check class reserves and connect to electronic reserves in the catalog. Any patron may View their Library Record to see materials they have checked out, when they are due and renew the materials if possible. Location information will show where the item is shelved.

The Reference staff will assist patrons in learning how to use the catalog and some of its special features.

2. How do I renew items online?

A patron may renew library materials that he/she has checked out by selecting View Your Library Record from the Services & Forms menu on the library's home page. At the prompt, a patron should type his/her name and barcode number on the Marietta College ID. The patron can view Items Currently Checked Out. From the list of currently checked out items, a patron can renew materials and check for overdue materials. The patron should follow the directions on the screen to renew currently checked out books that are renewable under system guidelines.

3. How do I make a request for an item or article not available at the library or through OhioLINK?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is for students and employees of Marietta College. ILL requests are appropriate when the item is unavailable in the Marietta College Library or through the OhioLINK consortium. See ILL FAQs for more information.

Making an ILL Request

Copies of articles in journal titles not owned by Marietta College Library CANNOT be requested through the OhioLINK Central Catalog. Requests for these articles must be submitted to Interlibrary Loan. Interlibrary loan (ILL) request forms are available at the reference desk in Legacy Library or online. Allow 7 to 14 days to receive materials.

Notification

When your article arrives at the library you will be notified by email. In numerous cases, the library will send the article to you directly through email as an attachment or email you instructions on how to download the item from the ILL Article Exchange web site. An email will be sent to the patron's campus email address to notify you when a requested book has arrived. Please pick up ILL books at the circulation desk. You will need your Marietta College ID. Renewal of ILL books can be granted only by the lending institution.
