In December 2010, Robert and Shirley Showalter established the Kenneth E. Showalter '50 Special Collections Memorial Endowment. A portion of this endowment supports the Kennth E. Showalter '50 Special Collections Research Award. The award is presented annually to an undergraduate or graduate student who creates the best research project using the primary sources of the Slack Research Collections of the Legacy Library. 

The award is a $500 cash award presented for work done during the current academic year. 

Eligibility

Completed works in any form and in any field are eligible. In order to be considered, the work must

• - have been completed while the author was a student at Marietta College during the current academic year or the preceding summer
• - have been completed in connection with coursework at the college
• - be based largely or entirely on sources held in the Slack Research Collections of Legacy Library
• - present the original scholarly contribution of the author(s)

Submission guidelines

Works must be nominated by the faculty member for whom it was written. Each faculty member may nominate up to two works each year. 

In order to nominate a work for the award, send the following information to SpecColl@marietta.edu 

1. 1. A completed nomination form
2. 2. A copy of the nominated work 
3. 3. A brief description of the research process, prepared by the author. If the work does not contain a bibliography, one should be included here. 

Nominations for the 2022-2023 academic year are due April 21, 2023.
