Fire Procedure

  1. Call Campus Police @ 740-376-3333
  2. Make announcement - “Attention, library patrons.  For your safety, we ask that you evacuate the building immediately by the nearest exit.  Do not use the elevator.  If you cannot use the stairs, please go to the nearest stairwell and wait there for assistance.”
  3. Pull fire alarm – The nearest fire alarm is in the main entrance foyer.  Pulling the fire alarm will activate the metal doors that seal the main stairwell and prevent fire and smoke from traveling floor to floor.  The doors in and out of the stairwell will NOT lock.
  4. Evacuate the building.  Do NOT use the elevator.  Go through as much of the building as you safely can and calmly direct people to stairwells and emergency exits.  Stay away from areas where fire, smoke, or intense heat are present.
  5. Brief emergency personnel on the situation when they arrive.  Especially let them know if anyone may still be in the building.
