Library Reference Assistant Resource Guide: Emergencies - Fire

1. Call Campus Police @ 740-376-3333
2. Pull fire alarm – The nearest fire alarm is in the main entrance foyer.  Pulling the fire alarm will activate the metal doors that seal the main stairwell and prevent fire and smoke from traveling floor to floor.  The doors in and out of the stairwell will NOT lock. 
3. Evacuate the building.  Advise people to gather in the green space immediately in front of the library.  Go through as much of the building as you safely can and calmly direct people to stairwells and emergency exits.  Do NOT use the elevator.  Stay away from areas where fire, smoke, or intense heat are present.
4. Brief emergency personnel on the situation when they arrive.  Especially let them know if anyone may still be in the building.

Anyone who cannot leave the building using the stairs should be advised to stay in the main stairwell on a floor landing until help arrives.  Emergency personnel WILL check the stairwell for people and assist them in leaving the building.
