Library Reference Assistant Resource Guide: Routine Duties

Routine Duties

Beginning of Shift

  • Check paper supply for Ricoh units behind the reference desk
  • Check staplers on top of paper cabinet to make sure they are filled and working

Mid-shift walkarounds (at least once during a shift)

  • Check Ricoh units for any problems
  • Check computers on all floors
    • Turn on any that are off
    • Reboot any that are frozen
  • Check study rooms to make sure occupants are not being disruptive to others near them
  • Check compact shelving units to make sure they are functioning properly
  • Empty hole punch waste disposals in each Ricoh unit
  • Check hole punch unit on top of paper cabinet to see if it needs to be emptied.

End of shift

  • Do quick check of paper supply in Ricoh units
  • Report any problems to person going on reference desk duty before you leave
